What a beautiful, breezy day! Our tip today deals with the dreaded smartphone dropped in water. According to Consumer Reports “there’s no such thing as a waterproof phone.” Even water-resistant models typically don’t have a warranty that covers water damage. If your phone gets dunked: 1. Turn off the phone immediately.

2. Leave it in a container of uncooked rice for a few days to dry before turning it back on (rice absorbs moisture).

There are 2 categories of smartphones: IP67 (unit should withstand up to 1 meter deep in water for 30 minutes) or IP68 (unit should withstand water up to 1.5 meters deep for 30 minutes). Consumer Reports tested smartphones by submerging them at its claimed depth for 30 minutes. Samsung, LG & Apple models all passed the water-resistance tests. Per CR July 2019.

Going to the beach? Sand can damage a phone too. Recommend putting it in a ziplock bag.
