Here are some home remedies for sick kids (provided by Prevention magazine Feb. 2019):
For an earache use garlic oil. Crush 2 garlic cloves & mix with 1 tbsp olive oil; heat on low heat for 5 minutes. Remove garlic. Let it come to room temp. Place 2-3 drops in the painful ear. Repeat every 2-4 hours.
For an upset stomach use ginger. Ginger tea or ginger candy will calm nausea or an upset stomach.
For a fever…..Frozen socks. Should have led with this one! Sounds cruel but actually feels good and helps them feel better. Wet cotton socks in cold water & place in the freezer for 10 minutes. Put on their feet & cover with a pair of dry wool socks for 30 minutes or until they’re no longer cold. The shock of cold is said to stimulate circulation and the immune system as well as quell inflammation to help knock down a fever.
For the flu use elderberry extract. Studies show that taking elderberry syrup 3 times a day at the 1st sign of flu-like symptoms (fever, aches, cough) can shorten the course of the flu. Available as syrup, supplements or gummies at local drugstores.
